Amer Fort (Amber Fort)
11 km from Jaipur amidst the dry wrinkled hills raises Amber, or Amer, the former capital of the old state of Dhundhar for seven centuries built by Raja Man Singh in the 16th century, and added to by Mirza Raja Singh and Sawai Jai Singh.
The palace complex is approached through a steep path, popularly on elephant back up to the Jai Pol, the fisrt gateway.
Entering the Jai Pol, one comes to a huge courtyard. The front of the palace complex is dominated by the spectacular pillared Diwan i Aam with the double storied Ganesh painted gateway.
On the pathway to Amber palace, a spectacular well comes to the eyes of the visitors.
